What is a Practical Nurse (LPN)?
LPN/LVNs care for ill, injured or convalescing patients or persons with disabilities in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, private homes, group homes, and similar institutions. LPN/LPN may work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Licensing required.
Practical Nursing Training
When you enroll as a student in Chancellor Institute Practical Nursing diploma program, you will learn field-specific subject matter such as medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and Human growth and Development, Nursing Pharmacology and Nursing core classes. You will also experience clinical training in head to toe assessments, the nursing process, care planning, administer medications, start IV fluids, and many other clinical skills.
CI’s diploma program includes a 700-hour unpaid clinical rotation that offers a chance to receive real-world, hands-on training under supervision in facilities such as a Rehabilitation Hospital, Long-Term care Facility, Physician offices, Surgical Center, Detox Center or Rehab center. The PN program prepares students to sit for the Florida Board of Nursing (NCLEX). Once the student passes the NCLEX exam, they will become an LPN/LVN and will be to practice as a nurse.

What is the job outlook as an LPN/LVN?
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), employment opportunities for LPNs and licensed vocational nurses (LVNs) are predicted to grow by 9 percent between 2019 and 2029, with a demand for over 65,000 LPNs and LVNs during that time. In other words, now is a great time to invest in your future by signing up for a licensed practical nurse online program through the Chancellor Institute.
It’s an exciting time to enter the field of nursing. More health care professionals will be necessary to serve the aging Baby Boomer population and to meet the growing demand for in-home health care, but there are also incredible advances in technology that are changing the medical landscape. You can be part of this and enjoy untold opportunities for advancement when you choose LPN hybrid programs that let you learn while you continue to earn at your current job.
The over-65 population is expected to double by 2060. Considering that over 85% of older adults have at least one chronic condition (and over 60% have at least two), the demand for qualified health care workers is likely to increase in the coming years.
This will create ongoing opportunities for health care professionals to grow and advance, especially the ones that choose to continue their education after earning an LPN license. The coming years may even bring new roles and opportunities for qualified nursing professionals.
Whether you decide to get right to work and consider additional education later or you want to immediately continue to build on what you’ve learned so far, an LPN license can be a great stepping stone toward additional educational opportunities. You may be interested in an LPN-to-RN (registered nurse) program, which takes about 1-2 years to complete and results in an Associates Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Perhaps you might be more interested in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). While this degree program takes 3-4 years to complete, it will result in additional job opportunities, increased job responsibilities, and greater earning potential.
If you enjoy being an LPN, you can also consider specialized certifications that increase opportunities for placement and advancement. By increasing your expertise in one or more areas, you will not only make yourself a more valuable candidate for employment, but you will also increase your earning potential and gain the chance to seek jobs in a niche that will best suit your personal goals and preferences.
